How to grow Oakleaf Lettuce Seeds

Growing oakleaf lettuce from seeds is straightforward and rewarding. Begin by selecting a sunny spot with well-draining soil. Also keep in mind that lettuce prefers cooler temperatures and thrives in soil that’s rich in organic matter.

Start by sowing the seeds directly into the soil or in containers, planting them about 0.5 cm deep, spaced 2-3 cm apart. Gently water the area to keep the soil moist, but not soggy, and make sure the plants receive at least 4-6 hours of sunlight a day. As the seedlings grow, thin them out to about 20-25 cm apart to give them enough room to spread.

Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods, as lettuce is sensitive to drought. The oakleaf lettuce will be ready to harvest in about 4-6 weeks, once the leaves are large and tender. You can harvest the outer leaves first, allowing the center to continue growing, or pull the whole plant when ready.
