PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Basil Dark Opal, with slightly glossy purple black leaves and contrasting pink flowers, is grown for its beauty just as much as for its taste. Leaves have a sweet peppery liquorice flavour. Deliciously aromatic on the plant, basil naturally deters mosquitoes and flies while attracting butterflies, bees and beneficial insects
How to grow Basil from seeds
Sow seed indoors in a greenhouse or on a warm windowsill, and don't move plants outside until summer. Or, plant outside when temperatures are 18 C or warmer.
Basil Dark Opal likes a light, well-draining soil with some well-composted material. Cover seed lightly with fine soil and keep moist during germination. When the seedlings are about 5cm tall, thin or transplant and set plants outside when it is warm and after all danger of frost.
Harvest leaves regularly and remove flowers to concentrate the plant's energy on leaf production.
