PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

These very cheerful looking Dahlias come in a wonderful array of multi colours. Reselection of seed stock has resulted in the best colours available and large blooms, almost all of which have collarettes of the same or contrasting colours. With a height of up to 45cm, they are wonderful for cutting.  Grow these delightful flowers from Dahlia flower seeds!

All the Dahlias we offer can be very easily grown as half-hardy annuals and flower the first year from seed.

Sowing advice

How to grow Dahlias from seeds?
Dahlia seeds need to be sown between February and April undercover. Sow, 0.5cm deep, in trays of moist compost. Place in a warm position 15-20°C. Keep moist. Transplant seedlings, to other trays or individual small pots when large enough to handle. Grow on in cooler, but frost free conditions. Gradually harden off young plants before planting out after the risk of frost, May - June, spacing your plants 30cm apart, in well-drained soil and a sunny spot.

MAINTAINING YOUR DAHLIAS

Too much compost or manure at planting causes problems, but if you apply a low-nitrogen fertilizer (5-10-10, for example) each month through the growing season, you'll boost your blooms and put you in the running for your local dahlia society competition.

Snails, slugs, and aphids are big fans of dahlia foliage, so plan your strategy for fending them off. Deer, on the other hand, aren't particularly interested in these plants. They'll eat them if nothing else is around, but they'd rather go after your prize roses.

Deadheading spent flowers during the bloom period encourages continual growth.
