How to grow Spinach Renegade Seeds
Spinach Renegade is known for its robust flavor and can be used in a variety of dishes. Renegade thrives in cooler temperatures, so plant the seeds in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked, or in late summer for a fall harvest.
Growing spinach indoors: sow January-February and harvest February-April.
Growing spinach outdoors: sow February-April. For continuous harvest, sow every two weeks for a good supply.
Start by choosing a location with well-drained, fertile soil and a pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Sow the seeds directly into the soil about 1-2 cm deep, spacing them 5-10 cm apart in rows that are 30-45 cm apart. Water the seeds thoroughly after planting, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Spinach Renegade seeds generally germinate within 6-21 days.
As the seedlings grow, ensure they receive adequate sunlight, ideally 4-6 hours of direct sunlight per day, or provide partial shade if temperatures are high. Thin as required to a minimum of 15cm apart. Regularly check for pests and diseases, and provide a balanced fertilizer if needed to support healthy growth.
Harvest the spinach when the leaves are young and tender, typically when they are about 7-10 cm long. Spinach renegade plants usually mature in 42 days. Harvest individual leaves when they are big enough and the whole plant before it goes to seed. Regular harvesting of outer leaves encourages continued growth and helps prevent bolting. Harvest as a whole by cutting off the plant just above ground level.
