How to grow Nasturtium Seeds

Timing: Plant nasturtium seeds after the danger of frost has passed in your area, typically in spring. They prefer warm soil for germination.

Soil Preparation: Ensure the soil is well-draining and loose. Nasturtiums tolerate poor soil but thrive in well-drained, moderately fertile soil.

Planting Depth: Sow the seeds directly into the soil about 0.5-1cm deep. Space seeds approximately 30cm apart to allow for adequate growth.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water the seeds gently after planting and continue to water regularly, especially during dry spells.

Sunlight: Nasturtiums prefer full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Ensure they receive at least 6 hours of sunlight daily for optimal growth and flowering.

Germination: Nasturtium seeds typically germinate within 7-10 days. Keep the soil consistently moist during this period.

Thinning: Once the seedlings have grown several cm tall, thin them out if necessary to provide adequate space between plants.

Support for Climbing Varieties: If you're growing climbing nasturtium varieties, provide them with support such as trellises or stakes to help them climb.

Harvesting Seeds: Allow some flowers to mature on the plant. Once the petals wilt and fall off, the seed pods will develop. Harvest the seeds when the pods turn brown and dry out.
