Scabiosa (scabiosa stellata, scabious flower, pincushion flower, starflower)
Scabiosa atropurpurea 'Fata Morgana' has fully double, lightly scented pin cushion flower heads. Its unique, antique creamy apricot shade with hints of pink set Fata Morgana apart as a romantic, windswept wildflower. Scabiosa makes excellent cut flowers because of their long vase life. Scabiosa Fata Morgana works great as a filler for borders.
It prefers in full sun and well-drained soil but can deal with some shade. Cut or deadhead blooms to prolong flowering or leave on so that the plant will self-seed. The birds also love scabiosa seeds!

Growing Scabiosa Fata Morgana from Seeds
Both annual and perennial scabiosa are very easy to start from seed. Scabiosa seeds are large, papery, and shaped like shuttlecocks; very easy to handle.
Please note: the shoot will grow out of the back of the feathery area of the shuttlecock rather than the point. Plant your scabiosa seeds on their side so the shoot can make its way out easily.
Sow sparsely on damp seed compost. Keep moist, germinates at 22-25°C. Once shoots appear place in a bright, cool area. Scabiosa transplants easily without much issue and since they are such hardy plants, you can plant them out at any point, typically around the second or third set of leaves. Space at approximately 15cm intervals. Give a good soak after transplanting.
Once established, Scabiosa is pretty drought tolerant. They do well with a good amount of fertilization, so keep well fed and well watered.
